Shadow Box Workshop
We showed children how to cut and paste and to transform everyday bento box into a light box. With our support, children learned to create a sketch and the concept of “yan carving” (similar to relief print) and “yin carving” (similar to intaglio print). At the end of the class, they created their own light and shadow theater with a setting and puppets they designed.
This workshop can be used for various topics. For instance, in collaboration with Hualien Archaeological Museum, we organized the workshop to become part of the museum tour, so participating families learn more about the exhibits in the museum. We had also designed the workshop with the performance of Story of solar terms fruits (Summer). During the workshop, participants turned the sweet memories of summer into a story of shadow play.
